Another CoAL setback
NewsThe water use license for the Makhado coal project has been suspended, halting the development of the 5.5 Mtpa coal scheme in Limpopo Province in the far north of South Africa, close to the border with Zimbabwe.
Coal of Africa Ltd (CoAL) has called for a national debate on how to reduce the cost of transporting bulk commodities in South Africa. The mining company is currently ramping up production on its Vele and Makhado projects to 6.8 Mtpa, but CEO David Brown is unhappy at rail tariffs in the country.
