Armenia to bridge Black Sea and Iran

Armenia is considering construction of a 470 km rail line connecting its northern and southern borders, thus linking Georgia’s Black Sea ports with Iran. Hitherto, Georgia’s ports have been the only sea gateway for the landlocked Trans-Caucasian state. The proposed railway would provide Armenia with an alternative route via Iran, but would also make the small country a natural bridge between Iran and the Black Sea ports.
