Malawi agrees lower tariffs

The government of Malawi has announced that it will reduce international freight costs by 40% once the Nacala railway project is given the go-ahead, expected in early 2013. Mozambique’s planned new coal railway from Tete Province to the port of Nacala will pass through Malawi en route. The 912km railway will comprise both new and existing sections of line, with total development costs estimated at US$2B.
