Poised to play the Trump card

After decades of debate about the renewal of America’s port and waterway infrastructure, there is support and momentum on Capitol Hill for Investment.

From ageing bulk terminals to veteran waterways and lock systems, infrastructure renewal, for years overlooked and underfunded, is now at the forefront of the political agenda in Washington. In 2015, Congress approved the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act, a five-year authorisation of US$305B-worth of infrastructure upgrades, which will include the country’s bulk ports and waterways. Now, all eyes are on President Donald Trump’s US$1T plan to tackle what he sees as “America’s crumbling infrastructure”.
