Oz grain goes overseas

Another of Australia’s grain marketers and handlers has moved into foreign hands after Japan’s Sumitomo took full control of the previously half-owned Emerald Group. Victoria-centred Emerald was established in 2004 and grew to operate 17 up-country terminals as well as the Appleton Dock bulk facility in the port of Melbourne, marketing 4.5 Mtpa of grain. Sumitomo acquired its original holding in 2012 when it merged its Australian Bulk Alliance with Emerald.
