The arrival of grain and cereals from Ukraine continues to rise at the Port of Valencia, experiencing an increase of 123% during the first half of 2024 compared to the same period of the previous year.

Between January and June 2024, a total of 661,861 tonnes of grain and cereals from Ukraine arrived at the Port of Valencia, while in the first six months of 2023, the figure was 296,795 tonnes.

These figures for the first half of 2024 consolidate the recovery trend that had already been detected in the last year after the outbreak of the war caused a significant drop in the arrival of grain and cereals from Ukraine to the Port of Valencia.

For example, the year 2022, when the invasion began and the Russian naval blockade of Ukraine’s main ports took place, ended with the arrival of 241,000 tons of grain and cereals at the Port of Valencia. A figure that has already been far exceeded in just the first half of 2024.

Subsequently, humanitarian corridors and alternative routes allowed a gradual recovery of exports in Ukraine, which ended in December 2023 with 772,276 tons of grain and cereals deposited in the Port of Valencia. A mark that, again, is not far from the 661,861 tons that have already arrived in just the first six months of the year, so it is expected that 2024 will soon exceed the figures for 2023.

During the first half of 2023, Ukrainian grain exports arriving in Valencia were concentrated in January, March, May and June. In 2024, all months of the year have seen grain traffic from Ukraine in the Port of Valencia. The largest peak was in February 2024, when 181,000 tonnes of grain and cereals arrived at the Port of Valencia, followed by May, with 145,169 tonnes, and June, with 123,500 tonnes.
