California’s San Francisco Bay is seeing a substantial increase in bulk cargo traffic as a major retrofit of the area’s bridges gets underway. Modernisation of the bridges, to make them virtually earthquake-proof, is generating a massive requirement for cement, aggregate and sand, as well as 100,000t of construction steel.
