Bedeschi helps Takoradi handle its biggest bulker
NewsGhana’s Takoradi Port has received the biggest bulk ship ever to call the port since its construction nearly a century ago.
The Armitt Group recently managed the removal of two 1,050t shipunloaders from the former Tilbury power station located on the Thames.
“The SPMT equipment was supplied by Mammoet and worked efficiently with both machines clearing the ground pretty much as expected, with the water bags only required for one of the lifts,” said Nicholas Marshall, commercial director, at the Armitt Group.
Armitt chartered the HHL TOKYO for shipment of the unloaders to the Netherlands for demolition. On arrival in the Netherlands, a tug and barge combination was chartered to enable the transhipment alongside the Waalhaven port, before final delivery to the demolition facilities. “So, with two consecutive voyages, four lifting operations, four lashing operations, and four port calls all went to plan and not even Storm Doris could ruin the party,” the company added.
