LNG isn’t everything, there’s still a role for coal
NewsLiquified natural gas is unlikely to displace coal in China’s energy transition, as the country prioritises domestic energy sources over imported LNG.
According to the German Coal Importers Federation (VDKI), Germany imported close to 40 mt of coal last year, the first time the country has imported more coal than it produced. German coal mines generated 28 mt in 2001 and it is likely that they will cut a further 1.5 mt this year.
