Rotterdam coal volumes soar

Coal throughput in the Port of Rotterdam shot up by 26 per cent to almost 14 mt in the first six months of this year and, says the port authority (GHR), the historical “coal record” of 23.7 mt set in 1991 may well be exceeded. Some 60 per cent of the traffic was destined for Germany and Rotterdam’s share of total German coal imports (including imports from Eastern Europe) is estimated at 40 per cent.
