Financial problems on the Tanzania-Zambia Railway (Tazara) have come to a head, with a strike by workers in both countries, arguing that they had not been paid for five months. Tazara already operates at a big loss, affecting its ability to finance repairs to rolling stock, as well as pay its workers. The line is used to transport copper from Zambia and Katanga Province in Democratic Republic of Congo via the Tanzanian Port of Dar es Salaam. Zambia and DR Congo are Africa’s biggest copper export
