In 1999 the Port of Amsterdam, including the associated North Sea Canal ports of Beverwijk, IJmuiden and Zaanstad, handled some 68.8mt of dry bulk commodities, most of these being transhipped in the North Sea Canal area, which was responsible for 42.8mt of this total.
