Bateman Africa is supplying belt press technology to the Waterval Waste Water Treatment Works for the East Rand Water Care Company (ERWAT).

Leaving aside pneumatic or hydraulic pipelines, any requirement to transfer bulk materials mechanically over distances of 200m or more almost inevitably involves some kind of belt conveyor, if only because alternative types of mechanical conveyor would be prohibitively expensive to install and operate.

This article outlines how high-capacity and overland belt conveyors can provide a more cost-effective alternative to competitive forms of bulk transport. It describes a number of such recent conveyor installations, with emphasis on how specific problems of terrain or plant infrastructure restrictions have been overcome.
